ENFIELD – City Council decided this week to engage law firm Berchem Moses of Westport for an independent review of Enfield’s tax assessment process after an acrimonious discussion over how the vote was cast .
The four council members who voted against hiring the company at Monday’s town hall meeting said the choice had already been made for them because the resolution included Berchem Moses’ name. They assumed the procedure would be to determine which of the three companies they polled during the August 17 executive session got the most votes.
“How can you put the company here when we haven’t even voted yet?” asked Councilor Douglas Finger. “That should be torn up and thrown away.”
