Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Technical Advisor on Investments, Mr. Kabir Shagaya has advised private and public sector leaders to provide the necessary support to young people to sustain economic growth.
Shagaya told Ilorin on the sidelines of his first Voices of Leadership (VOT) workshop to mark his 34th birthday.
He said the initiative was born to provide a platform for influential young leaders to weigh in on the worsening youth crisis, unemployment and lack of leadership.
Shagaya believed that “this is the right place for young people to be inspired by visionary young leaders participating in a discourse that expands their possibilities, the vision of living a life of impact.”
He assured the summit would be held next year, promising to continue interacting with students for the good of the nation.
Also speaking at the event, the Director General of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engr Ahmed Salihijo, noted that relationship management is vital for effective leadership, forcing young people to be united and accessible to power. .
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, The Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, said Shagaya had inspired him to replicate the summit in Oyo State.
He said such an initiative putting students and top leaders under one roof for mentorship is commendable.
Meanwhile, the program also featured a debate session between higher education institutions in Kwara State, with Kwara State Polytechnic, the emerging winner of Ilorin with a cash prize of 500. 000 N.
Ilorin University emerged as the first finalist and walked away with the sum of N250,000, while Kwara State University came in third and was awarded with N150,000, and College of Education ( COED), Ilorin walked away with N100,000.
