Law firm Aberdein Considine takes root in Edinburgh by merging with historic firm

The deal, which is billed as a merger, will see all Russel+Aitken Edinburgh LLP staff transfer to Aberdein Considine and will be based in its Edinburgh offices at Multrees Walk, Elm Row and Lothian Road, to set up a business with a workforce of nearly 500.

The combined entity will be marketed under the Aberdein Considine brand and will achieve sales of over £32 million. It is the latest such deal for the Aberdeen-based company after partnering with Wallers Solicitors and A&S Ireland in 2016, for example.

Aberdein Considine flexes mortgage muscles with Edinburgh-based senior hire

Russel + Aitken Edinburgh LLP, which is based in the city’s West End, dates back to the 1800s and says it provides a wide range of legal services, with a focus on residential and property services and services to private clients as well as dispute resolution. .

It adds that RA Direct, its lender services arm, serves several UK lenders in areas such as volume transfer, mortgages, secured loans and supplementary advances.

Aberdein Considine was started in 1981 by friends Harvey Aberdein and Iain Considine, and claims to be Scotland’s largest estate solicitor and lettings agent. Overall, he provides property, legal and financial services to private and commercial clients across Scotland and England in over 70 practice areas, including family law, private client, labor law, corporations, commercial property and dispute resolution.

Operating a nationwide network of 19 offices, with 460 staff in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Stirling and Newcastle, it also says it has one of the largest mortgage brokerage and wealth management businesses IFA in Scotland, and an established lender services unit serving UK financial institutions.

The agreement will see the two partners of Russel+Aitken Edinburgh LLP, Dianne Paterson and Alan Jones, join Aberdein Considine as consultants.
