Law firm Garstang renews sponsorship of Preston Grasshoppers

A Garstang law firm will provide ‘significant’ funds to local rugby union team Preston Grasshoppers as part of a new sponsorship deal with the club.


Garstang Harrison Drury Solicitors have renewed their longstanding partnership with Preston Grasshoppers for three years and will contribute to the running costs of the club.

The company will benefit from first and second team sponsorship, on-field advertising, match-day hospitality and other benefits.

John Chesworth, executive chairman of Harrison Drury and former captain of the first XV at Hoppers, said: “I know firsthand the transformational impact that participation in sport can have on your life and how local sports teams strengthen communities.

“That’s why supporting grassroots sports has always been important to us as a company. We are delighted to renew our partnership as main sponsor, supporting the club financially for three years.

Hugh Duckworth, chairman of Preston Grasshoppers, said the club were keen to “strengthen” their relationship with the company.

The president said: “We know from experience that they will be with us every step of the way over the next few years.

“We are extremely grateful to Harrison Drury for the continued support of the business, which provides us with vital income for the continued growth and development of the club.”

Matthew Astley is an Associate Lawyer and Head of Sports at Harrison Drury and specializes in business and sports matters.

Matthew said: “We are proud to support Preston Grasshoppers with their great community work and continued development on and off the pitch.”

Founded in 1869, Grasshoppers are one of the oldest rugby union clubs in the north of England and are famous for their white and blue shirts.

Its first team plays in the RFU National League Two North, and the club also has four other men’s teams, women’s and women’s teams and mini, junior and foal sections.

Hoppers’ Lightfoot Green ground is also home to Typhoons RUFC inclusive rugby team.
