Meghan Markle turned 40 in August 2021. She marked the special day by giving back and sharing the details in a playful video. Like most of his public appearances, in person or remotely, body language experts scrutinized his every move. From the comfort of her California home, Meghan appeared calm, confident and sure of herself, according to a body language expert.
Meghan celebrated her 40th birthday by encouraging mentorship
When she turned 40 on August 4, 2021, the Duchess of Sussex marked the occasion by announcing a mentorship program for women re-entering the workforce. She took to Archewell, the official website of her and Harry’s foundation, to share her motivation.
“With my 40th lap around the sun in mind, this got me thinking,” Meghan began. “What if we all spent 40 minutes helping someone else or mentoring someone in need? And then what if we asked our friends to do the same? »
She went on to say that she asked 40 people to start a global effort by “contributing 40 minutes of mentoring to help women get back into the workforce.”
Among them were Katie Couric, Adele, Priyanka Chopra, Kerry Washington, Amanda Gorman, Gabrielle Union, Ayesha Curry, Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and many more.
The 40×40 video showed a calm and confident Meghan
While the Royal Family has not publicly acknowledged Meghan’s birthday, the Duchess of Sussex appeared relaxed in a video with Melissa McCarthy. The two appeared in a short clip from their respective offices where they talked about ways Meghan could celebrate her birthday.
McCarthy and Meghan drank tea and joked before sharing details about 40×40. As body language expert Judi James told the Mirror in August 2021, the Duchess of Sussex seemed “super chill”.
“With her laptop resting on a mound of assorted magazines and her dozing dog on a cushion behind her, Meghan’s super chill body language here suggests a woman imbued with inner confidence and well-being,” James said.
“Looking towards the camera, she joins in the mischievous smiles as Melissa tells her about her chickens; her official photos in the garden, her royal role and her acting role in Suit,” she continued.
“It’s probably the closest thing Meghan will come to having a celebrity roast, but it allows her to be seen showing her more self-effacing side,” James added. Meghan “smiles at Melissa’s jokes and even cautiously joins in” which “suggests an inner calm and a very strong sense of self-esteem”.
Meghan’s body language got serious
In the video which also featured an appearance from Harry, Meghan was not all jokes and smiles. As James pointed out, the Duchess of Sussex’s body language would get “serious” when discussing the mentorship scheme.
“There is of course a shift to more serious body language cues when Meghan mentions her campaign,” she said. “Her hands form a forward ‘praying’ gesture as she talks about tying him to his birthday and she uses a raised finger to suggest a more serious theme despite the comedic music.”
So while the public got a glimpse of Meghan’s home office, they also saw a confident and relaxed royal, as evidenced by Meghan’s body language.
