BEHIND a successful song or dance is the collaboration of a group of artists. Each member brings an integral element to what makes a creative production stand out. This collaboration will be put to the test in the search for new TV5 talents, PoPinoy, which will be released in June.
Hosted by Maine Mendoza and Paolo Ballesteros, the show features aspiring male and female groups who will compete to be named Pinoy Pop idols. A PoPinoy priming will air on June 6 at 8 p.m., and the show will premiere on June 13 at 7 p.m. on TV5.
During the competition, the groups will be supervised by PoPinoy Headhunter actress Maja Salvador, R&B singer Jay R, dancer and choreographer DJ Loonyo and stage actress Kayla Rivera.
“We focus on groups,” Cignal and TV5 chairman and CEO Robert P. Galang said at the online press launch on May 26. Mr. Galang added that the goal of the talent search is to have the groups recognized locally and internationally.
Groups (whose members are aged 17-28) have submitted audition videos and those who are successful will begin their mentoring with the four “headhunters”, as well as other guest mentors.
Participants will undergo rigorous training in dance, singing and personality development. They will also have the opportunity to speak directly about their personal struggles, as well as their development to find ways to collaborate effectively.
Archangel Media producer and CEO Michael Tuviera said the show will offer a training manual as a guide for attendees. “We wanted [it] be more constructive for the children, ”he said.
Mr Tuviera also stressed that the development of talents and skills will be the focus, but without losing the excitement and suspense of those who leave and stay in the competition. “So whatever happens, you’re not just waiting for the eventual winners… they’ll come out better than the bands they were before,” he said.
To help climb PoPinoy, TV5 joins forces with the telecommunications brand TNT. “Through our partnership with TV5, we aim to give our talented artists a platform to shine and realize their dreams while celebrating our original and rapidly evolving Pinoy Pop music,” said Jane J. Basas, Vice President principal of Smart and responsible for the consumer wireless business. quoted as saying in a report.
