This new program aims to support identified Canadian women entrepreneurs

Starting a business can be difficult and isolating, especially when you are part of a minority group with minimal resources, tools and mentors to rely on.

Faced with obstacles that those in more privileged positions could not, self-identified women entrepreneurs deserve the support needed to make their dreams come true.

The economic turmoil caused by COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact on women entrepreneurs. Many women now find it difficult to keep their businesses afloat, BDC says, as they tend to run smaller businesses, receive less funding, and are typically concentrated in the service sectors hit hardest by the pandemic.

Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, which takes place on November 19, aims to recognize and address these challenges.

To mark the occasion, Uber Canada and The Forum, a Canadian charity that mentors and supports self-identified women entrepreneurs, are teaming up for a series of programs that will help women achieve their business dreams.

Divided into two different streams, the Forum Growth Series program aims to equip self-identified women entrepreneurs with the tools and resources to thrive. Through this partnership, they hope to support women who drive, deliver or manage restaurants using the Uber platform.

Uber Canada

The first installment, called The Forum Growth Series: Shift, is designed for all business owners focusing on how women can easily transition into entrepreneurship and transform their business. idea into a successful and fully operational business.

This program will show how entrepreneurs can grow their business, moving it from a part-time or part-time job to something that can support them full time. In addition to hearing from guest speakers who have themselves taken the plunge to start their own businesses, attendees will receive advice on financial, operational and marketing strategies.

The second installment of the program – The Forum Growth Series: Resto – will target restaurateurs looking to grow their business and continue to thrive in the restaurant industry (an industry that can be quite difficult). This stream will help entrepreneurs develop actionable ideas, community partnerships and resources to start their own business or take their existing business to the next level.

The Forum will also offer additional access to 12 months of one-on-one mentoring, access to weekly calls with other women entrepreneurs and access to a sharing platform where entrepreneurs from across Canada can connect, ask questions and share. knowledge.

Uber Canada knows that many people who use their platform see it as temporary while they work towards their dream career. This partnership demonstrates Uber Canada’s commitment to helping achieve all entrepreneurial goals – through education, community development and other actionable resources.

The Forum, which has supported more than 10,000 women entrepreneurs since 2002, is a perfect fit for this partnership, bringing its educational tools and mentoring programs to the context of women who use the Uber platform.

Applications for both programs are now open, with live sessions starting in February. The programs will operate in English and French, with 500 places available. This program is open to all self-identified women entrepreneurs, including drivers, delivery people and restaurateurs who use the Uber platform, or their family members.
